Wind Turbines in the Sandhills

Laurel Ashlyn. December 23, 2021. Grant County News 137(21): 18. .

Let me paint a picture in your mind,
Where all nature's unique creatures you can find. Bald Eagles and Whooping Cranes proudly fly in the sapphire blue, clear uninterrupted skies. Burying Beetles bring life to the sand
In decomposition, they lend out a hand Minnows of all kinds fill the streams
in the glittering sunlight, they shine and gleam. As you travel farther, showcased in the sun
Is the rare and beautiful Blowout Penstemon Now let me tell you more, if you will⁹
About the problems of these beautiful Sandhills located in Nebraska, unlike any other place Where people are trying to build a case
To prevent construction of large wind turbines Abd miles and miles of their power lines
With these, come dangers that I need to share About things in which we should all care Remember the bald eagle, soaring high?
No longer can rule the dangerous skies.
The wind turbines holds a most deadly blade,
With each stroke we may see their numbers fade. unfortunately òthe whooping crane holds a similar fate Though already dwindled from their endangered state. What about the Burying Beetle, so helpful and kind? Their habitat destroyed is what they would find.
So would the Blowout Penstemon so beautiful and rare That is in desperate need of our attention and care
Wind turbines do not place without penalty
Especially with the sand's fragility.
The streams that flow consistently true
it would be foolish to think they wouldn't be affected too. and all the creatures in them live and dwell, Wouldn't they be affected as well?
In the untouched groundwater, toxins will weep
And in your and their water, pollution would seap.
There are places where wind energy could belong
But in the Sandills it seems to just be wrong.
So please help these creatures keep living so free
By stopping this project by NPPD
How can I help, you may ask?
Well with just a simple task,
Carry this story where you go
So more people are aware and know.

Just a small thing that can go a long way And we'll keep fighting everyday for the creatures of this place bug and small It is our duty to protect them all.

Thank you for lending me your time.

To talk about the consequences of wind turbines in a place so special and one of a kind.

Help me protect it, if you do not mind.
