Proposed Power Line Nebraska Sandhills
Ross Silcock, Houston. December 29, 2022. Stapleton Enterprise 52: 14.
During the past 50 years I have spent many days studying birds and wildlife in all corners of the great state of Nebraska. At the top of my list, however, is the Sandhills region, where I have been able to relax, unwind, and enjoy the amazing vistas and wildlife to be found there.
But it has come to my attention that a proposed major transmission line from Lincoln County, Nebraska to a proposed substation in northeast Nebrasks is currently planned to pass through the heart of the Nebraska Sandhills.
The Sandhills are an internationally iconic asset of the state of Nebraska, a place of solitude, largely unspoiled by signs of intrusive human presence, and a refuge for amazing wildlife as well as for humans looking for peace, a rare commodity nowadays.
I strongly recommend that no further intrusions of infrastructure such as transmission lines occur in currently pristine parts of the Sandhills. Instead, I strongly suggest placement of such lines in areas already disturbed such as highways and railroad rights-of-way.
Please reconsider this unnecessary destruction of a unique area, its habitats, wildlife, and human inhabitants, who continue to do a remarkable job in preserving the Sandhills, by rerouting the planned transmission line.

Wonderful letter, I wish all the people that have visited and loved the sandhills would write on this subject.
